I absolutely 1000% do not think Herbie is too small for Odom Jr's stature. He isn't a bankable star, despite his award wins and noms. Most people know him from Hamilton and Hamilton alone, and that was many years ago now... and even that, it's hard to compete with LMM as the name people remember to know from that show. He is a star. He can clearly do lead roles on Broadway.
Co-starring in a huge buzzworthy revival of one of the most known musicals of all time, opposite Audra... directed by Wolfe... I don't care that the role has no solo song. I think his career would do well having something like this coming next. And I agree he'd have been an interesting choice.

Clearly for whatever reason Wolfe et al wanted Rose and Herbie to be a mixed couple. But even as far as white guys go, Burstein is extremely expected for this role.
