The original cast of Street Scene featured Brian Sullivan as Sam ("Lonely House") - he would go on to sing Peter Grimes at the Met the following year. Sullivan's voice is wonderful, but I do think he's rather miscast in the role, at least as he sounds on the recording (he sure doesn't sound like a lower class 19-year old lol). Similar to the wonderful but miscast John Reardon in the 1960 "otherwise original cast" recording of On The Town. But in both these cases, the composer seems to have wanted those personnel.

Has anyone mentioned coloratura soprano Reri Grist, who was the first to sing "Somewhere" in West Side Story (and does so on the original cast recording)?

Zachary James - the original Lurch in The Addams Family musical - also is an opera singer. Ironically, his one role at the Met (so far?) was a speaking role, though an important one - the narrating Amenhotep III in Akhnaten.
