"3) The original Broadway production and the Signature revival of "Angels in America" and "Perestroika" by Tony Kushner had some remarkable replacements. In the original: Cynthia Nixon as Harper Pitt, Jay Goede as Joe Pitt, Dan Futterman as Louis, Cherry Jones as the Angel/Nurse et al. and F. Murray Abraham as Roy Cohn. Signature revival: above all the sensational Michael Urie as Prior Walter, Keira Keeley as Harper Pitt, Jonathan Hadary as Roy Cohn and a sexy Adam Driver as Louis. That replacement cast was remarkable."
That Signature replacement cast was indeed remarkable, and I'd like to add that I saw Driver's understudy Eric Bryant in "Perestroika." He was an even better Louis than Driver
I preferred David Dukes to John Lithgow in "M. Butterfly."
And I wish I'd seen Heather Headley as Shug. I love Jennifer Hudson but she just didn't deliver in that role. |
