"A Gentleman's Guide To Love and Murder" ends with Monty retrieving the diary from prison where he wrote of his murderous plot. In the film (yes, I know it wasn't supposed to be based on "Kind Hearts and Coronets", but SPOILER FOR OLD, BUT GREAT MOVIE: Monty accidentally leaves his diary in prison when he's released, but with this evidence will surely lead to him being hanged. (A great ending after all he's done to all the various characters played by Alec Guiness). In the musical, for a moment he forgets it, but then, I guess more in keeping with a musical comedy, he retrieves it just in time. The ending is happier (for him anyway). END OF SPOILER
