I would take a guess that Carol Halstead wasn't properly rehearsed/had an on-stage put-in (or really ANY time on the set) for either role yet to be able to go on with such short notice due to the fact the show was still in previews until Thursday. Cancelling a performance, or sometimes 2, to get the cover sufficiently prepared is far from uncommon, especially in our Covid world.
This isn't a big musical machine with hundreds of moving parts where swings and understudies are collaborating with Assistant Choreographers, Dance Captains, AD's and/or Stage Management to be ready for their tracks, the focus was probably lasered on getting Patti and Mia to opening and nothing more. |
