I think by the time I ws in my early 20's my gaze had shifted south of 14th Street. I saw things like THE WIDOW CLAIRE at the old Circle in the Square and PSYCHO BEACH PARTY (at the Minetta Lane or the Lortel?) and TEN PERCENT REVUE (no memory where that was!).

Those old Burns Mantle and John Willis compendia were like a drug to me. Not only NY theatre was covered but also all the major regionals in the USA and the Stratford and Shaw seasons in Canada. (There was also a grand annual Calle the Canadian Theatre Record that documented all the seasons from every theatre in Canada.)

In the absence of proper theatre history courses at school those books were definitely my education.

(I enjoy the FB group Forgotten Musicals and the scads of old ads that they post. The Kenley Players alone had so much going on!)
