| The original production was among the first Broadway shows I ever saw as a teen. I was amazed by everything in that production, including Jill Haworth's performance. Her character, as I saw it, was a star only in her own mind, so she didn't need to blow away the audience with her pipes. I thought she was very effective and heartbreaking. I was also fascinated by the huge mirror filling the back of the stage, reflecting the audience in a slightly off-kilter, funhouse mirror way. |
