| I think I've mentioned before that I love to do on-stage seating, but I am going to pass on this one. On stage seats are almost never an ideal view of the show - in order for the on-stage audience to avoid blocking the rest of the audience, the seats have to be pretty far on the side or in the back, but the shows aren't typically staged in a way that the side/back audience is catered to in the same way that in-the-round staging does. For the producers to be charging $272 (the top price for this show) for 26 of the 30 on-stage seats is going to result in a lot of complaining. (The other four seats don't seem to be on sale yet.) I've sat on stage for almost every Broadway show with on stage seats in the past 10-15 years, and they almost all charged significantly less for those seats than for orchestra seating. The only one I didn't do is Network, because that came with food and was $300+, if I remember correctly. The only Broadway shows that offered on-stage seating in time period that haven't yet been mentioned, I believe, are Heisenberg and Rocky (although the on-stage seating for that only came in the climactic fight). Our Town is the first Broadway show since COVID began to offer on-stage seating. Greater Clements is an off-Broadway show that had on-stage seating (which I did not do). Sitting on stage for A View from the Bridge was the closest to the action I have ever been for an entire Broadway production -- it was very intense. The Rocky view was really interesting because you were at the same level as the actors, so the climax felt like a real boxing match. (I'm not counting as on-stage seating the shows at Circle in the Square where audience seating was created on what is typically used as the stage in Lady Day, Oklahoma, and Enemy of the People because the playing space was reduced.) |
