I really enjoy FB so I saw the version a few months ago when it was more Sondheim-focused (and Chris Collins-Pisano did a knockout take on "Buddy's Blues"). This is almost all new material, which would be impressive alone, but it's also wonderfully funny. I haven't even seen several of the newer shows, but by the time a throwback parody I won't mention arrived in the middle of the Hell's Kitchen section I was a bundle of uncontrollable laughter. Some of it felt so polished and perfectly timed, it felt like FB was upping the ante anticipating a Broadway production that didn't materialize (a failed transfer that doesn't escape FB's notice). I liked the Ben Platt character too - I'm just surprised they didn't find a way to tie the DEH movie into the Wicked number |
