I don't know if the problem of pedicabs blasting loud music while waiting outside theatres is common, but two posts here from a few months ago mentioned that having gone on during performances of Appropriate. This first is from a post by downtownlw, posted on Aprti 15: “Appropriate: I sat in row 'N' in the center orchestra, at half price. Sarah Paulson was awesome. The rest of the cast put the diss in dysfunctional family and were probably very good, but I couldn’t hear half of what they said. ( I have very good hearing) Part of that was due to the constant noise of pedicabs, with music blaring, passing the theatre. There also seemed to be a lot of people partying and laughing outside the theatre. I would love to see this play again because I’m sure I missed so much. It was thought provoking and very funny at times.” And this is a post by ardiem, posted on May 22: “I saw it in both venues, and the ending at the Hayes had the same impressive elements as at the Belasco. Unrelated, but the Belasco is incredibly porous to street noise. The doors immediately behind the orchestra go directly out to the street, and the sound of Empire State of Mind from pedicabs and random street chatter was pervasive throughout the performance.” It would be nice if the police would crack down on that as well. Or if not the police, if the city would create some sort of group that would enforce the noise laws that already exist. |
