For all the gender switching, I still prefer Bobby as a guy.

That seems to be the general consensus, at least for those of us who knew the show with its original gendering first.

I was glad to see the new production - it did have some good moments, and the tour was very well cast. But it strayed too far from the show I fell in love with back when I was a teen first getting to know Sondheim's work. And I still really prefer the original 1970 version (The "Vocal Minority" vocals intact and those 4 voices singing at the top of the show instead of the full cast, and no added Bobby/Peter scene. I'm on the fence with whether to include "Marry Me A Little" at the end of Act I or not - I think it can work, but I also think the show works fine without it as originally written).
