Thanks for that, ryhog. I liked your clear and gentle description of the situation.

You make me think about an artistic director in one of the big theatres in Montreal, Quebec Theatre du Rideau Vert, Denis Filiatrault, who is 93 years old. Surprisingly she was not the founder of the theatre and only got the job when she was 73. (The founder Yvette Brind'Amour ran the theatre from the age of 30 until she was 73.)

Weirdly, the artistic director of the biggest theatre in Quebec is Lorraine Pintal at Theatre du Nouveau Monde, who is also 73. (Her successor was just named this summer.)

For some reason best known to people from Quebec, Theatre in that province is very much the domain of superannuated women. Perhaps Carole Rothman should bone up on her DuoLingo French and send in an application.
