She has a reputation when it comes to her personality, and there has been staff churn because of it. Despite that, there have been some real artistic successes over the years. As is often the case when places grow, the org has developed into an institution with real estate. Running such an institution has different demands from being a producer/director, and the operating environment is also not the same as it was before the pandemic (artistically and financially).

A lot of places have been quietly looking to replace long-time leaders for continuity purposes. I think you'll see even more of this throughout the country over the next few years as many places have just been treading water in a holding pattern because of the pandemic. There's been a seismic shift in the entire industry. A lot of staff have also simply left the industry because the environment is so tough these days. If you're a leader at such a place, you have to know that it's time to bow out gracefully and on to the next chapter because it's pretty much inevitable.
