I caught ''Forbidden Sondheim: Merrily We Stole a Song'' last November during its stint at the Green Fig at the Yotel (off 42nd St.). I've been a longtime fan of Gerard Alessandrini's parodies, so I enjoyed it even if it had its share of hits and misses. I especially liked Josh Groban's ''Epiphany,'' where he sang about how he'll never get his Tony because he's overshadowed by the hammier Annaleigh Ashford. (And I loved Groban.) Anyway, the show was primarily about Sondheim's shows, but there was a section where Sondheim weighed in on newer shows, like ''Some Like It Hot,'' ''Six'' and ''New York, New York.''

In the press releases for ''Forbidden Broadway's'' move to the Helen Hayes Theatre (initially) and now to Off-Broadway's Theater 555, however, they did announce that the latest edition would include spoofs of ''Hell's Kitchen,'' ''Back to the Future,'' ''The Outsiders'' and ''The Great Gatsby.'' Ironically, the two Sondheim revivals they were spoofing - ''Sweeney'' and ''Merrily'' - are no longer on Broadway, so I guess they wanted to be more au courant.

I've found ''Forbidden'' fun in the past, but aiming for Broadway audiences and prices was probably too ambitious. They're better off Off-Broadway.
