The Deaf West production of Spring Awakening was thrilling in Los Angeles, partly because being deaf was considered a handicap that would not be indulged back in the day. So the company was able to integrate deafness into the storyline extremely effectively. I'm not a huge fan of American Idiot, but I'll probably end up seeing it since Deaf West is quite a visionary company. (On the other hand, their integration into Pippin some years ago in L.A. was a bust.)
