| Yes, and complex people, like Sondheim surely was, made mistakes and probably had regrets about things. He sure had regrets about writing "it's alarming how charming I feel!" -- yet he didn't revise it or take it out of the show after "West Side Story" premiered. About what he said about Hammerstein, perhaps he did have regrets saying so on later reflection. But most likely that was private, unlike his remarks. |
