All this talk about applause lead to do some thinking and researching what struck me quite strongly is that the tone of all about Eve is quite different.
The film takes a somewhat cynical stance at theater some of this remains in the musical but a lot of it imo has been whitewash I could talk about this for days if you would let me but I'll just say one example in the movie it ends with Eve encountering another young actress even more duplicitous than she is the musical closes with Marco and Bill in each other's arms and after the curtain call there is a rousing rendition of the title song performed by the entire company smiles and backslapping all the way
It probably will never happen but I would love to see a true musical version of All about that has the original bite restored
Maybe Patti LuPone or Donna Murphy are in the market for a new for a new vehicle of course yes ymmv |
