Because, without getting too political, the entrance of those football players who had been coached by Tim Walz was something electric like the staging of "Seventy Six Trombones" or other numbers from "The Music Man". The night before, the staging of each individual state's electors, usually a rather drawn-out thing on tv, was done with a DJ playing different music to really individualize things, and it was actually rather fun to see. I hope whoever did the staging is brought to Broadway -- we could use someone like Onna White / Tommy Tune / Bob Fosse / Gower Champion / Michael Bennett / Jerome Robbins -- who really make a staging memorable. Of course, the camera work last night helped a lot too -- what with Gov. Walz' kids (and son especially) being so tearfully happy and proud, that I thought Frank Capra (if he were a Democrat or just being a non-partisan jobbing director) also had a hand in things. | |
