| I also hate that she cut the Minstrel character and the song "The Minstrel, The Jester, and I." Yes. And, I assume the backup harmonies the Minstrel and Jester added to the lovely "Normandy" are gone too. Granted, Encores won big time this season with Titanic. But the stupid changes made to Mattress (which works perfectly well with the Minstrel intact) and especially to the show formerly known as Pal Joey are really lost on me. I won't be paying much attention to this one, sorry. I don't mind some topical updating in the dialogue. But there's no reason to cut a principal character or any songs. The only updating to the score I might agree with is the madrigal version of "Quiet" written for the last woebegone revival. (Not sure they're using that now, though.) Otherwise, the original score works - why change it? |
