Even Julie Andrews started to do more speak-singing, probably after hearing Rex Harrison do it, during her time in "My Fair Lady".

In recent years, word started to get around about one very prominent casting director who casts tons of Broadway musicals. This particular CD let is be known that they thought it the height of great musical theater performing that occasionally the performer drop the singing and speak some words or phrases as part of their performing. People want to get cast, so this seemed to adopted more and more.
