| I have to imagine seeing Lenya in that role, singing that song, must have been emotionally beyond huge. Although she took a different path than Frau Schneider and did leave Germany in 1933, Lenya of course lived through that era where so many in Germany had to face those issues, and it must have been both heartbreaking and illuminating to witness her sing about it, in a song that doesn't copy, but certainly seems to echo, the sound world of her late husband. |
