Did anyone ever consider making biographical musicals about Esther Williams (and not "What Would Esther Williams Do in a Situation Like This?"), movie star swimmer or about Sonja Henie, Olympic figure skater and first major sports movie star? Or about other popular skaters from the Olympics like Peggy Fleming or Dorothy Hamill? I recall in Las Vegas seeing something at the Riviera years ago some revue with an above-ground water ballet (the pool in "O" is not raised above the stage platform) in several numbers. I think there was a number in the mostly terrible "Dance a Little Closer" that had two gay characters ice skating a bit in a little enclosed skating rink after singing a love song. I guess there was the swimming pool on-stage in "Wish You Were Here", which I don't think has been revived (maybe they did it at the old Jones Beach where it might have been possible). But generally some kind of spectacle involving a sports star involves so much expense and for the star to be insured against injury, so much insurance, it just might not be financially feasible. Plus they should have some experience acting, singing and dancing (though apparently Doug Henning in his magical spectaculars did none of those). There's a lot of interest in the gymnastics every four years during the Olympics, and to a lesser extent when they have yearly nationals and internationals. They also put Mitch Gaylord in a movie years ago which flopped combining gymnastics and martial arts. If someone wants to produce a Simone Biles-themed and/or starring show, go ahead. There's a built-in fan base, but at what price will they buy tickets after they can get it for free on tv?
