JOB Last Night (Possible Spoiler)

Another preposterous depiction of psychotherapy, JOB brings a young woman who has had some kind of breakdown at work to a therapist for an evaluation to determine whether she is well enough to resume her “user care” tech job. That job, it turns out, just might be making her crazy. From the startling, if contrived, get-go and throughout, there’s nothing remotely plausible about this tech trauma narrative. Because the play is routinely incredulous, nothing’s at stake. JOB is a creaky, unconvincing genre exercise; it snaps to into focus when it describes work that’s unimaginably horrible, but this surprising—and dark—revelation is quickly supplanted by a hazier, more banal one that just about sinks this TV sized play.
