I disagree about the film version. At first, no one is buying what Finch is selling. Then the men are (literally) pulled in by him, all of them glad-handing, smiling at Womper (and we mostly don't see him, just the back of his executive chair - when we do see him, he's not going with Finch at all), before he pushes them away and back to their original non-committal positions. At the start of the 2nd verse, the men are clearly not happy with the insults Finch is doling out (the comedy is in their not realizing he's insulting them at first, all smiles, but watch their reactions change). Finch then gets them involved, to the point of clapping - but notice THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY DANCING YET!!! When Womper turns the chair around and gets up, the camera has us focus on him for a few tense moments before he does anything - seems he hasn't bought into anything yet and might even throw someone out. It isn't until after he's opened his mouth and says "no kiddin'" that everything starts to turn around.

And still, no dancing. None. Some hand motions, but no footwork. And when the dance does start, first it's just Finch and Womper - not the ensemble, who start to join after that. As if they won't dance until the Chairman Of The Board does. which is in of itself great storytelling.

I don't get any of that kind of build from Ashford, whose big mantra seems to come from a song title from the big flop musical Big - "Dancing All The Time." :-)
