On the other hand, ''Into the Woods'' seemed to do tremendous business in S.F., and the enthusiastic audience acted like it was at a rock concert.

The touring cast even featured some folks from the Broadway revival: Stephanie J. Block, Sebastian Arcelus, Gavin Creel and Kennedy Kanagawa.

But then it was booked for only a week at the Curran (about 1,700 seats), as opposed to the Orpheum (2,200 seats), where ''Company'' played for a month.
