I'm loathe to base anything on rehearsal snippets, and yet all of your well-argued points strike me as valid, whatever the eventual lighting. The song's eloquence is its unfettered truth-speaking, the rumination is strong because it's not oversold. The two Luisas I saw - the peerlessly elegant Karen Akers, the equally understated Mary Stuart Masterson - trusted the song. As did their directors. Maybe this style will land with new fans. |
