This was filmed as a silent then they went back and filmed a prologue with songs (and original performers) from the Broadway show and some talking scenes. Some of the Vitaphone discs for the talking sequences were lost but were later found. I don't know if these were added back in - TCM has on rare occasions shown this version but with subtitles during some of the talking sequences. Would be nice to get another restoration. The silent Rose Marie starred a young Joan Crawford - it is a lost film. Joan Crawford's first major featured role was in "Sally, Irene and Mary" (1925) which also starred Constance Bennett and Sally O'Neil. It is based on a 1922 Broadway musical. That has resurfaced and can be watched in its entirety on YouTube. It is worth seeing. Marlo Manners (Lady Barrington) |
