| There was an Off Broadway (or maybe Off Off Broadway?) production/workshop at Musical Theatre Works I saw that made some changes that were sanctioned by Kander and Ebb and McNally (Wallflowers was cut, for example). There are no run dates in the program, but a list of Musical Theatre Works contributors in the program is dated May 1995. It starred Lorraine Serabian (Tony nominee for Zorba) as Anna and Julie Johnson as Angel. Other names in the cast were Dan Sklar, Billy Hartung, and Michael Cone. It was a 9 member cast, and is listed as a "workshop" on the credit page, so I'm assuming they were trying out a reduced cast, altered version of the show for future productions/licensing? Choreography was by Joey McKneely and it was directed by Jay Berkow. It was nice to finally see this show, even in a slightly altered form, and at our performance I remember that Freb Ebb and Marilyn Cooper were seated in the row in front of us and I did my best to admire them from afar while also trying to listen in on their conversation to see what Fred had to say about this production! |
