I didn't even like it when I first saw it in 1983. At that time, I thought it was the worst Broadway musical I'd ever seen. (I had seen very few out-and-out flop Broadway musicals at that time.) Actually, I'm one of the few, I guess, who preferred the first Broadway revival to the original when I saw that revival at the end of the run after Robert Goulet had replaced Daniel Davis. Maybe I just knew what I was going to get that time.
I don't like "Look Over There" much, although I realize that many folks like it, or "Song on the Sand." When I heard the Australian cast recording some years ago, I did find that Jon Ewing as Albin made me like "A Little More Mascara," "I Am What I Am," and "The Best of Times" more than I had previously, but that was mostly because I found his performances of those songs to be really special. |
