I second that Coco has an underappreciated score. And I guess I'm in a vast minority -- I think Hepburn's vocals are thrilling. She may not have had pitch or tone but her speaking voice already had a natural musicality. (Compare with Bette Davis's singing voice which had none.) And Hepburn's commitment to the songs was bold, dramatic, and offered no apologies. My only issue with the Coco score was the arrangements/orchestrations (or maybe just the mixing of the album?) had more of a film score sound than a Broadway sound, and I prefer the latter. I guess 1970 is when I fell in love with cast albums because my second, third, and fourth show albums were the three shows discussed here. My first was Pearl Bailey in Hello, Dolly! which I had seen in Boston. I had to special order all four albums from the sole record store at the time in Hyannis, Mass.
