| SO grateful that this film, really hard to find elsewhere (I don't think it's streaming anywhere else), will be streaming on the TCM site till July 30...had never seen it before, & watched it tonight, completely riveted especially by Dennis' poignant, eloquent performance. And this was McKellen's film debut - such alive, detailed work with a lot of subtle subtext! It's a film very, very worth watching, & btw Margaret Drabble, who adapted the screenplay from her novel THE MILLSTONE, also wrote a fine theatre novel, THE GARRICK YEAR. |
