Does anyone know if the performance rights for Love, Janis are available?
As far as I can tell, it seems like all productions of that title stopped once A Night with Janis Joplin premiered and so I'm wondering if the estate only gave permission for her music/story to be used in one stage property at a time? (Which doesn't quite make sense, because it was her sister who was the inspiration for Love, Janis.)
The rights to 'A Night with...' don't seem to be available either, but with the London production about to open, that makes sense.
OR perhaps amateur rights for both of these titles are likely never going to be licensed, if the estate only wants to allow first class productions? I realize this is a lot of guessing, but if anyone has any information, I'd appreciate it.
Sincerely, a guy who's friend is really terrific in the Janis section of a production of BEEHIVE right now and doing some investigation on her behalf.
