| I gotta chime in and offer a counter, since you're casting more doubt. It would be very funny if what you're hearing were real, but I think you're projecting here. I have re-listened a few times to be sure, and I can say without a sliver of doubt that he is saying "playgoers". And to be honest, I've been listening to this recording often for 25 years or so (since I first heard this recording, which was also my first recording of the song, which I cite because I didn't bring with me an understanding of what he was supposed to say by hearing someone else do it first -- and I distinctly remember hearing the Nathan Lane recording after listening to Zero's OBC, because I was annoyed at the bit they added of opening the curtain to a Greek tragedy to sell "tragedy TOMORROW!")... and I've never once heard it as anything but clearly "playgoers". |
