I'd also heartily recommend Paul Salsini's ''Sondheim and Me.'' Paul does a delightful job detailing how he founded and edited The Sondheim Review (TSR), recalling the various notes, emails and phone calls he exchanged with Sondheim. The book also includes many photos and a number of covers from the Sondheim Review. It covered Sondheim productions from all over; offered analyses of his music and lyrics, and interviews with alumni of his shows. I was especially proud to have tracked down Mako, Soon-Tek Oh and Sab Shimono, so they could spill the tea on their history with ''Pacific Overtures'' for TSR.

Correction: In his book, Paul says he interviewed Donna Murphy for ''Passion,'' citing a few quotes. But those quotes came from MY interview with Donna. ;)
