ha, that's very funny (and frustrating), and yes a problem often with those kinds of concert/opera productions of musicals.

The sad thing is the it seems the major opera theater are some of the only places that even have the money to produce a musical with even a traditional broadway-size orchestra let alone 53 pieces. But most musicals are suited for opera performers, or to be in regular rotation at opera houses.

And it's funny that you saw Raines do Fredrick 16 years ago... when he was still quite a bit older than the role should appear, but vastly more reasonable at 60 than 74. I'm sure he was good in the role then.
Also to be clear again I do think Raines is very talented, and I recall thinking he was excellent as Ben in the last Broadway revival of Follies.
