The Boston Pops did a concert "Night Music" back in 2008. (Ron Raines was Fredrik.) They made the bad mistake of assigning some of the supporting/younger toles to "Tanglewood fellows," who are young professional-in-training classical singers. Fine for the BSO's concert opera performances, etc, but they aren't really always suitable to singing in Broadway styles, and I doubt they got much coaching in that regard for this event.

So, for instance, we had this very mature-sounding operatic young AMERICAN baritone as Carl-Magnus. (I emphasized "American" for a reason, which follows.) But his voice teachers/coaches were seemingly rather old school about everything needing round Italianate vowels, even in English. So when he and Raines were facing off in "It Would Have Been Wonderful," Raines would say "if..." and the Tanglewood Fellow dude would follow with "eeeeef..."

(and yes, I cringed.)

Similarly, I seem to recall that when the Chatelet in Paris did "Into The Woods" (with a radio broadcast), with a cast made up of some Broadway and some classical artists, the show opened with a montage of "I wish" vs. "I weeeesh." Sheesh.
