When this concert was first announced, I joked that they might restore ''Silly People'' just to give the wonderful Jin Ha (as Frid) something to sing.

But Sondheim reportedly has said: ''There’s a very good song in 'Night Music' called “Silly People,” sung by Frid, the servant. It says what the show’s about - and I like the song a lot - but the reason we cut it [in Boston] is because it’s a character you don’t care about at that point in the show."

In ''Finishing the Hat,'' his collection of lyrics, Sondheim adds in reference to ''Silly People'': ''Wrong songs take just as much time to write as right songs, and are frequently good ones, but they are often impossible to spot as wrong until you see them in performance.''
