STEREOPHONIC - I wonder if Max or Netflix are interested...

...not in filming the Broadway production, but in adapting it. Am I crazy or do you also think it could make a compelling limited series? I think they'd have to open it up beyond the studio, but if the casting, direction and production design were spot-on, I could imagine this being a very compelling period piece / limited series on one of the streamers.

As for the play itself, I'm usually not a fan of fictional rock star / fictional movie star works. I just never quite buy that these characters are as big as the narrative says. But, I didn't feel a false note at Stereophonic, even though these characters are obviously somewhat based upon Fleetwood Mac. It was one of the last shows I got to see in NY this past week. I can be as cynical as the next Joe, but I do love it when something actually lives up to the hype and the whole thing just worked for me.

I know "Best Cast / Best Ensemble" awards are probably impractical for a host of reasons, but, a show like this makes a solid argument for such an award. I was so amazed at how beautifully calibrated each of their performances were. While The Golden may not be a massive hall, it's also not a tiny theatre. Yet, even near the back of the orchestra, there was such a delicate sense of intimacy. Almost like I was watching them through a thoughtfully zoomed in camera lens. To have such undeniable presence to fill a Broadway theatre and yet to pull us in such a profoundly intimate way is really masterful work by this cast (and, of course, director and playwright.)

And, how wonderful to see a play with no names and no stunt casting still become a big, fat Broadway hit. Gives you a little hope!
