It makes sense when you type it out like that, and I love this show. But still not feeling that this dilemma for Phylis is set up as frequently or as clearly as what the others are struggling with.

For the other three, not only is it mentioned in book scenes, but the other songs they sing before the Follies! Sally has been with wrong man her whole life (Buddy's Eyes, Too Many Mornings), Ben is empty and in denial (The Road You Didn't Take, Too Many Mornings), Buddy knows his wife can't stand him and doesn't choose a girl who's crazy about him (The Right Girl...which now that I think about it is very similar to Buddy's Blues). And Phylis's only solo is Could I Leave You? Which clarifies my point. Her problem is more about her terrible marriage, and maybe wanting to get out of her terrible marriage, than it is about the innocent showgirl part of her that was lost. Although I def also thought of that Metropolitan Museum line.
