I've worked on many fundraisers and the key rule it to not spend so much money that you're left with little at the end of the night. As an example, if flowers are necessary for decoration, you try and get florists to donate them, which they can then take off as charitable deductions. In the case of the Transport Group being able to rent Carnegie Hall for the night (that is never donated for any cause, I would imagine), I have it on good authority that a generous sponsor paid that hefty fee which will allow them to clear a sizable chunk of change when the smoke clears, having managed to sell the entire 2,700 seats out. |
