But, I will say, the little I heard of the score [of Suffs] was appealing. Not so much the rather insipid lyrics, but, again, from the little I heard, it does seem like Shaina Taub has an interesting and subtly plaintive melodic and harmonic gift.
But the way it was being sung - note-note-note-note-note-note with every quarter note exactly on the beat with no nuance, made the song sound stilted and amateurish to me. It deserves better than that. |
