I am pretty sure that Hinton made her own decision not to go on stage. The production honored her importance by giving her a seat; it is inconceivable to me that they would not also have welcomed her on stage if she wanted/was able to go up.

The only thing ugly about the Koch Theater is its name. It is a masterpiece by Philip Johnson and, having spent many many hours there (city ballet, etc.), I would rank it as my favorite large space at Lincoln Center (my favorite overall being Alice Tully). Have you ever been in it? Or are you just going off of the TV view? Or do you just hate late modernist architecture?
