The chance to hear two singers -- both of whom have impeccable pitch -- harmonizing and riffing live on stage was enough to make me wish I had already seen it.

Not surprised at all that it's doing well at the box office. And very strange that some expect IN THE HEIGHTS to stand as the only show of its kind, as opposed to the type of genre that we allow for, say, Golden Age tap-dancing "let's put on a show to save the ____!" musicals.

re: the notion that pop songwriters only find their way to Broadway after they're no longer 'relevant' -- perhaps. The notion of a jukebox musical obviously portends that you've got a big catalog of hits to begin with. But for someone like Sara Bareilles, who could probably see that "Love Song" was a bit of a one-off and she wasn't about to become the next Lady Gaga, I'm grateful that she returned to her early love of musical theatre and gave us WAITRESS. I'm really hoping we get to hear more musicals from her.

We could say the same for Ingrid Michelson, who had a bit more radio success -- and some primo spots on "Grey's Anatomy" -- but put years into developing THE NOTEBOOK. I say good for her for really doing the work.

But considering Stefani Germanotta's musical theatre background, I wouldn't be surprised if Gaga writes something original for the stage, rather than a jukebox treatment of her songs.

To my knowledge, Alicia Keys wasn't really a musical theatre kid, so I hand props to the creative team for finding inventive ways to dramatize these songs. I hope it enjoys a long, healthy run.
