Yeah, I found that entire performance oddly flat and dull. Yes, there was VOCALIZING happening on stage, but not much performance. Lots of talented stage pros on that stage, so I imagine that's more down to direction and the kind of square-peg-round-hole nature of Alicia's music. I mean, I think Alicia is immensely talented, but, much of her songwriting is very... obvious, middle-of-the-road, greeting-card-sentiment'esque and perhaps doesn't lend itself well to musical theatre character portrayal. It's her undeniable charisma and vocal and piano talent that often take those songs over the top and make them successes. That was evidenced in the performance when she was 1,000% more compelling and electrifying than the actual Hell's Kitchen actors -- it was like she was painted in vibrant color and they were all sepia toned.

Funnily, I thought there was infinitely more passion, color and personality in the Hell's Kitchen acting winner's speeches than in their Tonys performances.
