The lyric to the song opens, "I'm breaking my mother's heart
The longer I stand looking at you
The more I hear it splinter and crack
From 90 miles away
I'm breaking my mother's heart
The JCC of Spring Valley is shaking
And crumbling to the ground
And my grandfather's rolling, rolling in his grave"
, the Jewish Mother's nightmre
Because the nice Jewish Boy is marrying a Shiksa (non Jew) - the Jewish mother's nightmare.

With the casting of this production, with all due respect, that would not be the same traditional Jewish mother's biggest problem.

But of course, that won't be a problem in this production, as Nick Jonas (Who, as he showed again last night on the Tonys, has no perceivable personality) does not seem likely to be able to play the Jewish guy who is half the cast of this musical. So maybe they will change the whole story to suit the casting? Or just let it be mediocre and inexplicable. "Rachel? He just said he was Jewish? Whats he talking about?"

Producers can spend their millions any way they like, but this seems a quixotic project on many levels. Their star did three Broadway shows before he could shave, in teeny parts, and then at 20 went into HOW TO SUCCEED and proved that he sold tickets but was mediocre. And now he's back.
