| I disagree with your middle comment about Gen Z. I think plenty of gays, straights, and in betweens in the younger generation care deeply about all of those things you listed, they just approach and interact with art in different ways, they're drawn to stories and productions that perhaps don't appeal to you, and—let's not forget—disposable income is a different situation in 2024 than it was in the 1960s-1990s so access is not always an option. The next generation is alive and well; leadership at arts organizations just have no clue how to speak to them. I do love that anecdote from Fran about Suzanne Farrell's hand, makes me laugh every time. |
