Shades of the old “hummable melody” debate here. To me, Days of Wine and Roses was the only score of the season that soared. Dramatic, beautiful, and yes, with some wonderful melodies, particularly Kelly’s two arias.
The only other score I think came close was Stereophonic, which I thought did a better job of using music for dramatic reasons than most of the new musicals this season. |
