Stereophonic's box office success is really remarkable. It's over three hours, there are no stars, there are no special effects or anything else fancy. There is extremely little physical action at all. It's just people talking and singing and playing. Yet it's the second-highest grossing play on Broadway, with Enemy of the People the only play grossing more. It's a good 50% higher than Patriots, Mary Jane, or Mother Play. And it's also grossing more than Suffs, Tommy, Illinoise, The Notebook, Ben Platt, and The Heart of Rock and Roll.

And I think the box office will keep up until January.

I'm having a hard time thinking of another play that has been such a box-office hit without stars or acclaim from a prior London run. The Humans is probably the last similar situation, although Stereophonic's box office is much stronger. My hats off to the producers of Stereophonic, which was a risky bet, but it is paying off.
