I'll admit I hadn't ranked it so definitively high until that incredible Cromer revival off-Broadway in 2009... but I took a big re-assessment of the play and its place in American theater, and I do think it is probably *the* greatest American play. Which is very hard for me to say with the love I have for other contenders (by playwrights I am much more passionate about than Wilder), like Long Days Journey Into Night, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, A Streetcar Named Desire, Death of a Salesman, A Raisin in the Sun, Angels in America, The Crucible, A Delicate Balance, Fences, Buried Child, The Glass Menagerie and many others...

But thinking of it like the one play I would pick to put in a time capsule, I think it would be Our Town.
