I saw the HD transmission on "the big screen" and really liked the show. (Also, I'm longtime friends with Mary Callanan, who was wonderful in her supporting roles.) I'm very very glad it was preserved on video. But yes, I would have liked to have seen the initial Paper Mill version to see how things changed. "Welcome Home" was a daring way to end the show, but my impression at the time was that the show didn't really build to it effectively enough - perhaps indeed because the story had been compromised along the way. And Delvino, you may indeed be right about the Epilogue being anticlimactic.

Still, I think the score is very strong, and I've had several of my college musical theatre students make good use of "Donny Novitski" (just make sure you bring your own pianist to the audition lol) and "Love Will Come And Find Me Again." It's a show that I would have fun music directing sometime.
